Conway returns as New Zealand name strong 15-member squad for T20 World Cup

New Zealand will start their T20 World Cup campaign against Afghanistan in Guyana on June 7

With just over a month to go for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, New Zealand have named a very strong 15-member side led by Kane Williamson. While the return of Devon Conway, who is nursing a thumb injury he suffered in February, is significant news, New Zealand will be happy to have the services of their skipper – Williamson, who missed the last two T20I series due to his birth of his child and then because of IPL duties with Gujarat Titans.

The squad features Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry for the first time in a T20 World Cup squad whereas Adam Milne has been ruled out after a recent ankle surgery. Kyle Jamieson is also recovering from another stress fracture in his lower back, but Kiwis will have Trent Boult and Tim Southee for the mega event.

"Matt has worked exceptionally hard on his skills across the phases of a T20 game to come back into selection consideration," head coach Gary Stead said in a statement.

"Rachin has made every post a winner in the past 12 months and it was exciting to see him continue that trajectory over the summer in the T20 format against Australia," Stead added.

While Michael Bracewell will be a part of the side, Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell will be the pace-bowling all-rounders. Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman will be acing the spin-bowling all-rounder duties in case necessary.
