David Warner, Ishant Sharma set to miss DC’s clash against KKR

While Warner has been nursing a finger injury that he picked up in the clash against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12, Ishant Sharma has been struggling with constant back spasms

Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Pravin Amre has confirmed that David Warner and Ishant Sharma, both of whom have not featured for the side in the past week, face another week on the sidelines, ruling them out of the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on April 29 (Monday).

While Warner has been nursing a finger injury that he picked up in the clash against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12, Ishant Sharma has been struggling with constant back spasms.

"David Warner will take one more week to regain fitness. Ishant will also need another week" Amre said at the press conference post the Mumbai Indians clash.

"Ishant had back spasms, which happened on the field two games ago. Warner had a hand injury, which is yet to heal. He had an MRI, which showed the injury for which he needed rest for two to three weeks.”

But the resurgent Capitals have done well in the duo’s absence, winning consecutive games, against MI and Gujarat Titans (GT). DC, in fact, are on a hot streak of sorts, having won four of their last five matches.

Against MI, DC were without another key player in Prithvi Shaw. Against the five-time champions, Abishek Porel stepped in as a backup opener. Amre revealed that Shaw missed the MI clash due to illness.

"Prithvi was not feeling well when we reached the ground," Amre said. "So we decided that if he was not 100% fit, we would go with Porel."
