That is it from this game! Oval Invincibles have got back to winnings ways and have gone to third in the table. Welsh Fire seems to have lost their fire since the departure of Bairstow as they have lost two on the trot. The action in The Hundred continues on Tuesday, 3rd August as London Spirit Women take on Northern Superchargers Women. That game begins at 1500 local (1400 GMT). Make sure you join us for that one. Till then, goodbye and take care!
Welsh Fire skipper, Ben Duckett says that the crowd is been amazing. Says that he knew that they were short in runs but he is proud of his bowlers to take this game so far. Says that he would have liked to score more today. Adds that they were more aggressive on the field than the last game.
Earlier in the evening, Billings won the toss and opted to bowl. That decision was validated by his bowlers as they were fantastic and restricted Welsh Fire to just 121. Captain, Ben Duckett was the lone warrior for Welsh Fire as he top-scored with an unbeaten 65. That though was not enough as they could score only 29 runs in the final 5 overs. That proved to be the difference. Tom Curran was very good with the ball for the Invincibles as he finished with a 3-fer.
For his calm, composed and match-winning innings, SAM BILLINGS IS NAMED THE HERO OF THE MATCH! Billings credits the bowlers for restricting Welsh Fire on a good wicket. Billings says it has been a hit-and-miss start but is happy to get the win in front of the home fans. Billings says they are creating chances but admits they need to work on their fielding and they are working to put it right as he feels it is a crucial part in this shortened format. Billings admits they played terribly at Headingly but were still in the game. Adds that showed they have adapted well. Billings says he enjoys finishing the game and playing spin in the middle. Tells they needed to do that. Credits Laurie Evans for the way he played. Billings says captaincy keeps you sharp. Tells Tom Curran had the right to bowl the final 10 balls. He says these decisions sometimes can backfire. He smiles and says he will do his homework.
A valiant effort from Welsh Fire bowlers but that was not enough as in the end they just did not have enough runs to play with. The bowlers though gave it their all. Neesham failed with the bat but redeemed himself with the ball picking up 2 wickets. Qais Ahmed was fantastic. Milnes impressed with his pace as well. Payne was expensive and that cost Welsh Fire. 10-15 runs more and it could have been a different story.
Chasing a moderate total of 122, Roy departed early. Narine and Will Jacks both got off to a flying start but could not capitalize on it. Billings though played with a steady head, he read the situation and ensured to keep things going. Evans played second fiddle before deciding to finish the game in style and in a flurry.
A relatively easy chase for Oval Invincibles and they have found their path back to winning ways. A spirited fight from Welsh Fire but the heat was just not enough in the end. They succumb to their second loss in a row. The home fans are loving this moment while Welsh Fire have a few things to ponder upon.
