Liam Livingstone is the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, he says that he is disappointed with the result but it was great fun to play in The Hundred. Adds that he has worked hard to get better at his own game. Says that the crowds have been amazing and it is great to see many kids coming to watch cricket. Further adds that captaining was a different experience and he has great respect for Moeen Ali.
Paul Stirling is the HERO OF THE MATCH. He says it was a brilliant team performance and every player played their part. Mentions that it got easier as the innings went on. Also says he is glad he could add some crucial runs to the team. Mentions that it's been a pleasure to play at the Lord's. Goes onto say the benefit of this competition is to meet players from all around the world and learn a lot from the experienced players.
Southern Brave lift the trophy and off go the fireworks! Each player takes the trophy in the hand and lifts the heavy trophy to celebrate their success. They now pose for the cameras and the crowd is getting behind them.
James Vince, the winning skipper, says that Birmingham Phoenix were really good and made it tough for them. Adds that it was a complete performance by the team. Praises Paul Stirling and Ross Whiteley for how they played and put on a big score. Says that there has been a different match-winner for them in each game. Jokes that the only way to get Liam Livingstone is run out given how he is batting and it was a bit of luck to get him. Mentions that the support staff was fantastic and the team has gotten together really well.
The win was set up by the batting though. Paul Stirling was sensational in the first innings and scored a match-winning 50. Ross Whiteley was brilliant in the end and provided Southern Brave with a great finish. 168 was a big total in the final and Birmingham Phoenix were nowhere close to that target.
Southern Brave had a great start with the ball. George Garton and Craig Overton took one wicket each at the start and put them on the top. They were under the pump when Liam Livingstone was batting but Tim David produced a great effort to run him out. Tymal Mills and Jake Lintott also took one wicket each in the middle overs to make sure that they remained in firm control of the game. Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan brought all their experience in the death stage to seal the game for them.
Birmingham Phoenix needed a good start at the top but that did not happen. Will Smeed and David Bedingham fell very early. But Liam Livingstone put on a masterclass in power hitting and kept them in the chase. If he had batted more, then the game could have been close but the big man was run out. Moeen Ali tried his best to keep them in the hunt but the required rate was climbing up and he fell too. That was the final nail as the required run rate kept climbing up and they could never catch up with it and fell short by 32 runs.
WE HAVE OUR CHAMPIONS! Southern Brave were sensational in the last phase of the competition. They were the better team in the final and will be delighted with their performance. Southern Brave dominated with the bat and did the same with the ball. A complete performance by them to win the finale. Birmingham Phoenix had an off day and failed to rise to the occasion.
