Yash Dhull ran in, took a low diving catch and India had their man. South Africa suddenly lost their center of the run-chase.From a distance, it is difficult to understand if Bawa really had planned to force Brevis to play the forward angle but he had surely observed a pattern there. His animated discussion with skipper Yash Dhull before that over gave in the idea that they still fancied their chances. As Vicky Ostwal reaped the fruits and initiated a collapse in his next spell, the South African kids had nowhere to hide, suffering a 45-run loss.More than anything, that moment in the game was the clear demonstration of the gulf between India and the other nations when it comes to Under-19 events. And how well prepared the Colts seem to be before playing the biggest tournament of the career. Four-time champions India dished out a clinical show to start their U-19 World Cup campaign on a winning note, thrashing South Africa by 45 runs in Georgetown.Put in to bat at the Providence Stadium on Saturday (January 15), India rode on skipper Yash Dhull&#39;s responsible 82 to post a fighting 232 all out and then bundled out the opposition for 187, with left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal (5/28) and pacer Raj Bawa (4/47) doing bulk of the damage.Chasing 233, South Africa colts lost opener Ethan John Cunningham (0) in the first over as he was trapped in front by pacer Rajvardhan Hangargekar (1/38). But Valintine Kitime (25) and Dewald Brevis (65), who idolizes AB de Villiers, then rallied the innings with a 58-run stand.The duo played patiently and hit the loose balls away as South Africa cantered to 38 for 1 after 10 overs. Kitime then took on left-arm medium-pacer Ravi Kumar (0/30) in the 10th over, hitting him for a boundary and a six as South Africa amassed 10 runs off it.Brevis and Kitime then hammered Bawa, amassing 17 runs of the 11th over. But Ostwal broke the stand after removing Kitime, who edged to stumper Dinesh Bana in the 12th over. It soon became 83 for 3 as Ostwal struck again, this time dismissing GJ Maree (8), who was caught by Bana in the 21st over.Thereafter, India did not allow any other South African batter to settle down. Left-handed Harnoor, who was India&#39;s leading run-getter in the Asia Cup and scored a century in the warm-up game against Australia here, fell to a ball that nipped back in. Raghuvanshi played around Mnyanda&#39;s inswinger and was plumb in front, leaving India for 11 for two.With India in trouble, skipper Dhull and Shaik Rasheed (31) got together to resurrect the innings. They shared a 71-run stand before Rasheed missed a sweep shot off left-arm spinner Liam Alder to be adjudged LBW.Rasheed, who was dropped on 17 at second slip off Andile Simelane, played some impressive strokes in his 54-ball knock, including an aerial pull and an on-drive off pacer Matthew Boast to break the shackles.Delhi batter Dhull then shared a 44-run stand with Nishant Sindhu (25) to take the innings forward. Playing a &#39;World Cup&#39; on these tricky Caribbean pitches can be a testing assignment. India&#39;s senior men&#39;s team found out in 2007 and 2010. Now the Under-19 boys are all set to take up this challenge as they face the South African colts at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana in their inaugural match of this edition of ICC Men&#39;s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022.The Indian contingent has been stationed in Georgetown for more than a week now. After a successful campaign in the Asia Cup, they flew here from Dubai via Amsterdam and Port of Spain. The boys have got time to acclimatise and they are going into this competition with two comprehensive triumphs against West Indies and Australia in the warm-up games.The confidence in the Indian camp was evident during their pre-match training session at the historic Georgetown Cricket Club ground on Friday (January 14). They had a full-fledged two-and-a-half-hour session in the first half of the day in which Yash Dhull and his boys sweated it out in hot and humid conditions.&nbsp;The practice pitches had a little bit of uneven bounce hence the fast bowlers &mdash; Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Ravi Kumar &mdash; had a brief outing. They bowled for the initial 20-odd minutes and then the rest of the bowling responsibilities were looked after by the spinners.&nbsp;And this team has a variety of slow bowling options. The bowling coach, ex-India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule had an extensive session with these young bowlers whereas Hrishikesh Kanitkar, the head coach had one-to-one chats with his main batters like Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Harnoor Singh, Shaik Rasheed and with skipper Dhull. &nbsp;&nbsp;This particular side banks heavily on its depth in the batting line-up and there was a glimpse of it when all-rounders like Nishant Sindhu and Raj Bawa showcased some of their power-hitting skills towards the end of the session.&nbsp;India played their two practice games at the Providence Stadium in which the pitch was &quot;batting friendly,&quot; as mentioned by Dhull in his pre-match presser. However, in the tournament opener between West Indies and Australia, the wicket seemed two-paced, especially in the first session. The Aussie spinners &mdash; Nivethan Radhakrishnan and skipper Cooper Connolly who is just a part-timer &mdash; got six wickets in between them to bowl the hosts out for a below-par 169.&nbsp;Hence, considering the conditions the Indian think-tank is likely to retain their three-pacer and three-spinner combination, which we saw in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. Also, with South Africa being a non-subcontinental side, their batters are likely to have a lesser exposure against quality spin.&nbsp;Off-break bowler Kaushal Tambe along with left-arm orthodox Vicky Ostwal are the front-line spinners in the side. No player from the 2020 batch, which finished runners-up to first-time champions Bangladesh, has gone on to play for India and only time will tell if someone from the class of 2022 reaches the highest level.The current batch doesn&#39;t possess prodigies like Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill (2018 pass-outs) but some of the players have already attracted attention. Jalandhar-born left-hand opener Harnoor is expected to score a bagful of runs in the tournament, much like what Yashasvi Jaiswal did in the previous edition.The 18-year-old was India&#39;s leading run-getter in the Asia Cup with 251 runs in five games and struck an unbeaten 100 against Australia in the team&#39;s final warm-up game on January 11. Right-arm pacer Hangargekar, who has played senior cricket for Maharashtra, is another player to watch out for.He impressed with his raw pace in the Asia Cup, picking up eight wickets, and is also a handy batter down the order.
