1 Dead In Pre-Planned Blast In A Pakistan Cricket Ground
According to reports, a second attack was foiled just in time
In a tragic event in Pakistan, a blast occurred at the Kausar Cricket Ground in Khar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which resulted in the death of at least one and has left several injured. The explosion is believed to have taken place on September 6 (Saturday) evening.
A police constable and a civilian named Najeeb Khan are believed to be among the victims. Local police have confirmed that the blast was a pre-planned attack to instil fear in the locals. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital, and Israr Khan, the public relations officer for Bajaur District, stated that they were able to foil a second attack.
The blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Such attacks on Pakistani soil stripped them of hosting international cricket for many years. Cricket came to a standstill in the country after the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have gradually ensured that cricket returns to normalcy in the country and also hosted the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
Pakistan are due to host South Africa for a multi-format series, starting October 12.
