Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans dished out yet another classic, as the two teams smashed 25 sixes between them in the Eliminator of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, on May 30 (Friday). Batting first, the five-time IPL champions tonked 228/5 in their first innings, courtesy of a stellar 50-ball 81 from Rohit Sharma.
Rohit put four balls beyond the boundary rope and was the highest six-hitter for MI on the night. Jonny Bairstow, who made his MI debut, too, showed a great deal of attacking prowess with a 22-ball 47, with seven boundaries.
The duo of Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya smashed six sixes between them, taking MI’s tally of sixes to 17. While GT tried their best in the run chase, the 2023 IPL winners could only score eight sixes in their innings, taking the total tally to 25 sixes - the most sixes in a playoff match in IPL history.
