On the back of her stellar Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season, Shafali Verma made her comeback to the Indian side. The right-handed opener smashed 20, 3, 47, 31 and 75 in her comeback series against England Women, making a strong impression.
However, in the ongoing three-match T20 series against Australia A, the Haryana-born cricketer has returned to her disappointing run. Across the first two clashes of the series, Shafali has scores of 3 and 3, failing to impress the selectors.
Just when that 3 against Australia A in the first T20 looked like an anomaly, the right-hander showed why the selectors didn’t have faith in her in the past with another poor outing. This time around, it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Kim Garth who removed her early on in the innings after she faced just five balls.
With Pratika Rawal showcasing her talent during her absence, Shafali’s poor run might just cost her a place in the upcoming ODI World Cup squad. Shafali only made her comeback in the first place after smashing 304 runs at a strike rate of 152.76 in WPL 2025.
On the other hand, it was all good news for Australia, as their skipper Alyssa Healy smashed a 44-ball 70, showing no signs of rust whatsoever. If Australia are to lift the World Cup in the coming months, then Healy needs to play a vital role, and her form is certainly good news.
