3 Players Who Could Have Been Wildcard Picks For India In Asia Cup 2025
Which one of these players would you have picked in your 15?
There have been mixed reactions from various quarters since India's Asia Cup 2025 squad was announced. Many have expressed their displeasure over Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal missing out despite being in good form. However, the 15-member squad is locked in, and India, who won the Asia Cup in 2023, will hope to add another trophy to their kitty.
But here are some players India could have picked as their wildcard pick - players who do not have much experience at the highest level, yet for the opposition, could have come out of syllabus.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi would have been the youngest Indian player ever to receive an international call-up, and looking at how he fared in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the selectors may have touched upon his name briefly. Turning up for RR in IPL 2025, Suryavanshi smashed a 35-ball ton against the Gujarat Titans (GT) and finished the season with 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55. Surely, one for the future.
Priyansh Arya
Another attacking strokemaker, Priyansh Arya, played in the IPL for the first-ever time in 2025 after displaying his talent in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). Bought for INR 3.80 crore by the Punjab Kings (PBKS), the southpaw finished his maiden IPL season with 475 runs at a strike rate of 179.24, playing a key role in PBKS' run to the final.
Digvesh Rathi
Bought for his base price of INR 30 lakh at the auction, Digvesh Rathi proved to be quite a handful for the batters in IPL 2025. Another player, who rose to prominence due to the DPL, Rathi finished IPL 2025 as Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps in 13 matches. He may have gotten into trouble for his over-the-top notebook celebrations, but there's no denying that the leg-spinner has the talent to shine at the big stage.
