3 IPL 2025 Flops Certain To Be Released Ahead Of IPL 2026 Auction

These players, who had an excellent record prior to IPL 2025, turned out to be major disappointments during the season

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 saw some of the modern stars lose their touch completely, including the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk. But he was not the only one. However, not all of them will be released because some of them also carry the weight of their past performances.

Here are three players, certain to be released ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, based on their flop show in IPL 2025.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk became a household name after he replaced an injured Lungi Ngidi in IPL 2024 and smashed boundaries at will, hitting 32 fours and 28 sixes in nine innings.

However, in IPL 2025, he was a clear no-show, getting only 55 runs in the six innings that he batted and was not made part of the team thereafter. With a hefty price tag of INR 9 crore, DC can fill the other gaps in the squad.

Devon Conway

South Africa-born New Zealander Devon Conway had one of the amazing starts to his IPL career, smashing 252 runs in 2022 and 672 in 2023. However, after missing the 2024 season, he was not the same and could score only 156 in the six matches that he played in 2025.

The fact that he played only six matches means that CSK are sure to move away from him. Since the 2025 IPL, Conway has played in four matches for the Texas Super Kings and is currently part of the New Zealand squad for the T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe, where he scored a fifty in the very first game.

But Conway was initially not part of the team and replaced an injured Finn Allen as wicketkeeper-batter. Since even New Zealand have moved away from him, CSK seem to think nothing different about the 34-year-old.

Fazalhaq Farooqi

Once thought of as a real game-changer, Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi turned out to be a real disappointment in IPL 2025, going wicketless for the Rajasthan Royals in the five matches that he played. His economy rate of 12.35 was the biggest drawback of playing him as a death-overs specialist.

Prior to signing for RR, Farooqi took 89 wickets in 57 games between January 1, 2024, to March 1, 2025. His average of 15.9 and economy rate of 7.4 were exceptional, making him a great buy. But now, Farooqi might be on his way out of the Royals' setup.
