3 IPL 2025 Team India Flops Who Could Get Dropped Before 2026 T20WC
We look at a few incumbents who have done a lot of harm to their India chances through underwhelming showings in IPL 2025
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) has been exhilarating thus far, with the race to the top four being closer than ever. But it’s a very crucial tournament in more than one way as this season is basically an audition for players from India ahead of the T20 World Cup next year, which takes place before IPL 2026.
We look at a few incumbents who have done a lot of harm to their India chances through underwhelming showing in IPL 2025.
Rinku Singh
For the longest time, Rinku Singh has been penciled in as the next permanent finisher for India in T20Is. However, his reputation has taken a hit after IPL 2025, and doubts have emerged over Rinku’s spot in the starting XI. His numbers look alright - avg 33, SR 146 - but, apart from the 38* off 15 in a losing cause against Lucknow Super Giants, Rinku has failed to close out matches.
The defining moment of his season, albeit in a not-so-good way, came in the clash against Punjab Kings, where he was schooled by Yuzvendra Chahal as PBKS defended 111.
It’ll certainly be a big surprise if Rinku plays in the 2026 T20WC.
Ravi Bishnoi
Once a ‘mystery spinner’ who was tough to put away, Ravi Bishnoi looks like he has been figured out now, and hence has been super ineffective in IPL 2025.
He was retained by LSG ahead of the mega auction but Bishnoi, in IPL 2025, has taken just 8 wickets in 9 matches at an economy of 10.4. He’s averaging 41.8 and has had only two games where he’s gone at less than 9 runs per over.
With Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav both enjoying outstanding seasons, the way back into the T20I side looks full of blockades for Bishnoi.
Shivam Dube
One of the unsung heroes in the 2024 T20WC triumph, Shivam Dube has had a very middling IPL 2025. His average of 34 has been boosted by a few not outs but his strike rate of 133.7 has been pretty low for someone who is a designated hitter. And the ‘spin basher’ has been extremely ordinary against spin in IPL 2025, striking at just 114 while averaging 29.
Is there a way back for Dube in T20Is? Not if he keeps batting like he has been.
