At 44, MS Dhoni is all but set to play his 19th straight season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While he retired from international cricket five years ago, he continues to be an active player in the IPL, plying his trade with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
But once he retires, many teams would be keen to have them in their backroom staff, as he can provide the players with some much-needed input. Here are a few likely teams he could coach if he retires.
The obvious choice, right? While Stephen Fleming has been at the helm forever, he is bound to leave his role at some point. That's where MS Dhoni can come in. Having led the franchise every season, there's no one better than Dhoni to lead CSK into a new era.
Who wouldn't want Dhoni to reunite with Virat Kohli? While RCB and CSK share a bitter rivalry, Dhoni's presence as a coach could give them a winning mindset. After all, he has led CSK to five IPL titles. While RCB finally won the title in 2025, they could be boosted by Dhoni's arrival.
DC are among the few teams left in the competition from its inception that has never won an IPL title. This could be a terrific challenge for Dhoni as they could perhaps instil the atmosphere he created at CSK in DC. While it could take a couple of years to get it right, with Dhoni's presence, DC would back themselves to win their elusive title.
