The fourth edition of the Maharaja Trophy is set to begin on 11th August 2025, with Mysuru hosting all the 34 games of the tournament. The tournament has been a key platform for a number of domestic talents to catch the eye of both IPL scouts and also the state team selectors, resulting in them ultimately moving to the next level.
The tournament over the years has created opportunities for batting talents like Devdutt Padikkal, Abhinav Manohar, Krishnan Shrijith and Luvnith Sisodia, with the latter two being notable batting talents from Maharaja Trophy 2024 who ended up being signed by MI and KKR respectively for IPL 2025.
Ahead of the 2025 edition of the competition, we look three batters that can impress the IPL scouts this time around.
SU Karthik is Karnataka’s answer to an aggressive opening batter in recent times as the 20-year-old batter, opening the batting for the Mysuru Warriors, has displayed outstanding skills in the previous two seasons of the Maharaja Trophy. He had a breakout season in 2024, scoring 372 runs, finishing the season as one of the highest run scorers.
Ahead of the 2025 Maharaja Trophy, he was one of the top retentions for the Mysuru franchise, showing the confidence the management has on Karthik. He is coming into this tournament on the back of good scores in Coastal Big Bash in Mangaluru earlier this year, where he scored 197 runs in six inns at a SR of 147 with two fifties.
Shubhang Hegde has managed to transform himself from a left arm spinner to an established middle-order batter who can bowl left arm spin, with the all-rounder enjoying two great seasons in the Maharaja Trophy scoring 200+ runs. His improvement in batting has not derailed his bowling, however, as he managed 14 wickets in the 2024 edition.
The 24-year-old all-rounder will be hoping to have another good season of Maharaja Trophy as he is one big season of excellent all-round display away from an IPL contract. The youngster will be hoping to break the selection door by the end of the season.
Macneil Noronha is one of the future faces of Karnataka cricket. The 24-year-old has done well to live up to the expectations, as he has smashed at a SR of 160 at the top of the order, giving quick starts for the Dragons while also contributing with some valuable off-spin.
Noronha will be hoping to convert the starts into big scores and take wickets consistently in the upcoming edition of Maharaja Trophy. The 24-year-old certainly has the potential to make it to the IPL.
