3 Maharaja Trophy 2025 Wicketkeepers IPL Scouts Will Track Ahead of 2026 auction
The tournament will begin on August 11 (Monday) with all matches set to be played in Mysuru
Every team needs a wicketkeeper who his not just good behind the wickets but someone who can contribute significantly with the bat. Over the years, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni, among others, have been deadly with the bat and are also among the best 'keepers the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen.
The upcoming Maharaja T20 Trophy is therefore a platform for many to do their bit and hope that the IPL franchises take notice. Luvnith Sisodia was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous auction, and we look at some of the wicketkeepers the scouts will have an eye on from this edition.
BR Sharath (Mangalore Dragons)
BR Sharath's only game in the IPL came in the 2024 edition for Gujarat Titans (GT) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2024. While his T20 record might be underwhelming, he has been excellent in the Maharaja Trophy, having smashed 471 runs at a strike rate of 148 since 2022. He has also inflicted 19 dismissals in this period, including six stumpings - the most by a 'keeper.
Suraj Ahuja (Bengaluru Blasters)
An explosive batter, Suraj Ahuja has struck at over 166 in the tournament since 2021 and has a healthy average of nearly 36, which is something every team in the world look to have. Moreover, he has struck a boundary every 4.6 deliveries, the best among keepers after Sisodia (4.4), along with inflicting 14 dismissals behind the wickets.
Nihal Ullal (Shivamogga Lions)
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Nihal Ullal has been around for some time, and given his experience, he can be a good stop-gap auction at the mini auction. He has hit 621 runs across the last three years, at a strike rate of 115, but has been the best wicketkeeper with 24 catches and four stumpings.
