3 Sachin Tendulkar Test Records Joe Root Might NEVER Break

Root is England's highest run-getter with over 13,000 runs to his name

If there is any active player who can go past Sachin Tendulkar's Test run tally of 15,921, it is Joe Root. Root could end the series as the second-highest run-getter in Test history, given the way he is going. However, there are certain records of Sachin Tendulkar that the former England skipper might never ever break. Here's a look at a few of them:

Number of years in Test cricket

Tendulkar played Test cricket for 24 years, since making his debut in 1989 against Pakistan. However, Root, who made his debut in 2012, has just played 13 years so far. At 34, Root perhaps has another 3-4 years left in him, subject to fitness.

Most matches

Tendulkar played a record 200 Tests in his illustrious career. Root, at the moment, has 157 matches to his name. While one cannot rule out Root going past Tendulkar, it might be touch and go. Root will have to play every Test for England across the next 4-5 years. It will eventually come down to his form and fitness.

Most Centuries

51 centuries is no small feat. When he retired, no one would have ever believed any player would go on to break his record. Root is the only player who currently stands a chance of breaking it, but he has to hit 14 more tons to equal the Indian great. Root may yet get close, but not close enough to script history.
