IPL 2026 Auction: 3 Spinners Mumbai Indians Can Target From T20 Mumbai League 2025

MI will look to strengthen their spin department ahead of the next season and they may not have to search too far

Digvesh Rathi, Vipraj Nigam, Vignesh Puthur, Zeeshan Ansari, and Harsh Dubey were among the Indian domestic spinners who made a mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Franchises usually avoid using overseas slots on spinners - unless they’re of the calibre of Sunil Narine, Noor Ahmad, or Rashid Khan. This creates consistent opportunities for local spinners across IPL teams. Franchise scouts are always monitoring domestic T20 leagues in search of promising spin talent.

Mumbai Indians (MI), known for having one of the best scouting systems in the league, unearthed Puthur through that very system. The left-arm wristspinner played five matches for MI in IPL 2025, picking up six wickets at an economy rate of 9.1.

MI qualified for the playoffs but fell short in Qualifier 2 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Alongside Puthur, they had Mitchell Santner and Karn Sharma as their two other frontline spin options. Santner averaged 31.3 with the ball, while Karn took seven wickets in five games @ 18.3. Karn is already 37, while Santner didn’t do enough to command a place in the XI.

MI will look to strengthen their spin department ahead of the next season, and they may not have to search too far. Here are three spinners from the recently concluded T20 Mumbai League 2025 who could be on their radar.

Shashank Attarde

(11 wickets at an average of 13.4 and an economy of 6.1)

The 33-year-old offspinner finished the T20 Mumbai League 2025 as the highest wicket-taker. Playing for Eagle Thane Strikers, Attarde didn’t go wicketless in any games and only once conceded runs at an economy of more than 8. Attarde, who has played six first-class and two List A games for Mumbai, is also a decent batter down the order.

Yash Dicholkar

(7 wickets at an average of 17.4 and an economy of 5.3)

The SoBo Mumbai Falcons left-arm spinner bowled 23 overs and ended the tournament with the best economy rate amongst 35 bowlers who bowled at least 10 overs. In five out of six innings, Dicholkar finished with an economy of less than 6. Almost every T20 team has an economical left-arm spinner in their set-up and Dicholkar could easily fit into that role for MI.

Maxwell Swaminathan

(8 wickets at an average of 22 and an economy of 7.7)

Just like his namesake, Glenn Maxwell, Maxwell Swaminathan is also an off-spin bowling all-rounder. He picked up the joint-most number of wickets for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, who were the winners of the T20 Mumbai League 2025. Swaminathan was with MI as a net bowler and has also bowled a lot to India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is also part of the MI set-up.
