3 Young Indian Wicketkeepers Who Could End Their Careers As IPL GOATs
India has many young 'keepers who can scale the heights of greatness through the IPL
Indian wicketkeepers and their batting changed face when a certain MS Dhoni started batting for India and showed what a 'keeper should be able to add to a batting lineup.
Now, with the Indian Premier League (IPL) growing from strength to strength, we have quite a few wicketkeeper-batters coming up who are not only brilliant behind the stumps, but also swashbuckling batters.
Let’s see three such young batters who can follow in Dhoni’s footsteps and become IPL GOATs in the future:
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan’s IPL career has been up and down so far, with the batter playing some special innings for the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has already played 119 IPL games and scored 2,998 runs at a strike rate of 137.64.
The good thing for Kishan is that he is also in contention for the Indian team on a regular basis, and he’s only 27 years of age. Hence, the Jharkhand batter has enough time to up his game and end his career with even greater numbers that would place him rightly in the pantheon of IPL greats.
Jitesh Sharma
If one has to see what Jitesh Sharma is capable of with the bat, they should just look at the way he batted in IPL 2025, where he played some incredulous shots to help RCB win their first-ever IPL title in 18 years.
At 31, it’s hard to label him as an out-and-out young batter, but some players bloom late, and Jitesh is certainly a player in that mould. He has a good half-decade ahead of him in the IPL at the very least if he maintains his form, and in this period, he can pull off some big performances to establish himself as one of the best wicketkeepers to have played the coveted tournament.
Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel’s batting pedigree is right up there with the best in Indian cricket at the moment, and he has proved that by being selected and performing for the Indian Test side as well. His glove work is exceptional, and that is always a plus for a keeper, even in the shortest format.
However, it's his IPL strike rate of 153.84 that establishes him as one of India’s brightest talents. He can hit the ball clean like a whistle and can bat anywhere in the batting order. What’s even crazier is that he’s just 24, and hence, the sky is his limit. With a big IPL career ahead of him, Jurel certainly has a great chance to sit amongst the GOATs of the IPL.
