The Top End T20 Series 2025 encounter between Hobart Hurricanes Academy and Melbourne Stars Academy on August 16 (Saturday) witnessed the most extraordinary start to a T20 match in history as the Stars posted 36 runs off the first over, with their score reading 36/0 after 1.0.
Chasing 228, Sam Harper and Thomas Rogers took 33 runs off the bat in a 9-ball over bowled by 21-year-old left-arm pacer Marcus Bean, who had made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut for Hobart Hurricanes earlier this year.
Bean began the over with 4NB. The next set of balls in the over read 0 2NB 6 3 4 6NB 4 4 as Stars, the chasing side, collected 36 runs off the first over.
Incredibly enough, the youngster ended up completing his quota of four overs after that, and did a decent job, finishing with 1/68 off his 4 overs.
Despite the ultra quick start, the game went into the very final over. It was Bean who bowled the last over, defending 12, and he got it to 1 needed off 1 ball. However, Stars Academy’s Liam Blackford hit a four off the final ball to seal victory.
Top End T20 2025 is an invitational, unofficial T20 tournament. Many prominent teams, including Pakistan Shaheens, Bangladesh A and Nepal, are featuring in the competition.
