Shreyas Iyer might be in the midst of an inspiring campaign as a captain, but he’s had a mixed season with the bat in hand. Iyer has been pretty remarkable outside home, but has struggled immeasurably at Punjab Kings’ home ground, which is the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
Heading into the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) today, Iyer had scores of 10, 9 & 0 under his belt in Mullanpur, and his struggle at the venue continued today as he departed for 6 off 10 balls. On the day, Iyer tried to tonk RCB debutant Romario Shepherd straight down the ground but shanked the hit and ended up putting it into the hands of Krunal Pandya, who took a fantastic diving catch at long-on.
With the failure, Iyer now has an average of 6.25 in Mullanpur. He has never lasted beyond the eighth over and has not faced more than 10 balls even once at home.
Still, despite being appalling at home, Iyer averages 43.83 in IPL 2025, having scored 263 runs at a strike rate of 185.2.
