46 is an age for athletes to enjoy at home, looking back at their glorious career, but not for Imran Tahir. The leg-spinner is still going strong, at 46, picking up four important wickets for Guyana Amazon Warriors in their clash against Dubai Capitals, on July 14 (Monday), at the Global Super League 2025.
After Moeen Ali’s 40 led the Warriors to a total of 138/7, it felt like they were probably 10-15 runs short, given the Capitals’ star-studded batting line-up. At 36/1, it seemed like the Capitals would be the runaway winners before Romario Shepherd struck twice in the same over.
The 46-year-old Tahir then entered the attack and knocked off the rest of the Capitals’ batting unit in his four overs, starting with the wicket of Sanjay Krishnamurthi. Tahir then picked up Jesse Bootan and Kadeem Alleyne before removing Qais Ahmed, who was his final wicket of the day.
It was the former CSK spinner’s second four-wicket haul in a row, after picking up 4/23 in the clash against Central Districts, on July 11 (Friday).
Tahir’s four-fer gave the Warriors a resounding win against the Capitals by 57 runs, taking them back to the top of the table.
