With just a couple of months to go for India's five-match Test series against England, the talk about who will make their comebacks is here. In a bid to win their first Test series in England in a long time, India have already shortlisted 35 players, and there's a great chance that the five players below could make a comeback in the Test squad.
Here are the five IPL 2025 star performers who can be recalled:
Till IPL 2025 mid-season, Shreyas Iyer didn’t even have a national contract, but his performances over the past few months have certainly turned it around. The right-hander has been at the peak of his power, with 480 runs in the preceding Ranji Trophy 2024/25 campaign, averaging 68.57, striking at 90.22.
Given that the wickets in England have become flatter, Iyer in that Indian middle-order could be the ‘attacking’ option.
You just can’t ignore Karun Nair, especially after how he’s made a mockery of Jasprit Bumrah on his IPL return.
Since the start of 2024, Nair has the most first-class runs, amassing 2040 runs at an average of 47.44, with eight fifties and seven hundreds. Not just that, Nair can play an aggressive hand in the middle-order, with his BPB (15.3) being one of the best in domestic cricket.
Prasidh Krishna has played three Tests, but there’s a strong chance that he could force a comeback on the back of a strong IPL 2025 showing. The Karnataka pacer has picked up 17 wickets this season, averaging 16.05 with the ball, at an economy of 7.80.
Not just that, Krishna also impressed one and all in his previous appearance for India, with figures of 6/107. So, he might really be in contention.
England and Shardul Thakur is a love at first sight.
The all-rounder, who was supposed to be in England playing county cricket, but a late call-up to the Lucknow Super Giants turned it all around. Thakur showed instant promise with powerplay wickets for fun, but his form since then has dipped massively.
However, his first-class exploits are such that he might yet again be in the reckoning. Thakur smashed 480 runs at an average of 68.57 and picked up 35 wickets @ 22.62.
A run-scoring machine from his youth days, Sai Sudharsan has emerged as one of the hottest prospects to don the white jersey. The left-hander has done really well in first-class cricket (1957 runs @ 39.93) and has since carried that form on at the IPL level as well. Across the last two seasons in IPL, Sudharsan is the second-highest run-scorer with 983 runs, striking at 145.2.
