7 Innings, 37 Runs: CSK Star’s Horror Run With The Bat Continues In 50-Over Cricket
His form is set to leave his franchise seriously concerned
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) youngster Ayush Mhatre is in the midst of one of the most horrific runs of form a batter could possibly go through, and there seems to be no end to his misery.
The 18-year-old had a tour to forget with the bat in coloured clothing in the YODIs against England U19, registering scores of 21, 0, 5, 1. The India U19 skipper was unable to buy a run despite his opening partner, Vaibhav Suryavansh,i smashing records left, right and centre.
The same pattern is continuing in the YODIs against Australia U19 as Mhatre has posted scores of 6, 0 & 4 in the three-match YODI series. It means that he has amassed just 37 runs in his last 7 YODI innings, at an appalling average of 5.28. The captain has been unable to buy a run, let alone have any impact.
In the third YODI, which is currently ongoing, 14-year-old Suryavanshi also had a rare failure, departing for 16. Before today, Suryavanshi’s previous seven scores in YODIs read 70, 38, 33, 143, 86, 45, 48.
Mhatre, 18, shot to limelight a few months ago in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he had a stellar season for CSK, after walking in as a replacement player, smashing 240 runs at a strike rate of nearly 190.00. However, his recent performances in white-ball cricket could leave his franchise seriously concerned.
