After getting dropped from the Indian setup, Bengal’s new skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran got off to the worst start possible in the Ranji Trophy 2025 clash against Uttarakhand, on October 16 (Thursday). But come the end of the clash, the dropped Indian opener answered back in fine style, smashing an 82-ball 71.
Following his first-ball duck, Easwaran couldn’t have asked for a better second chance, as Bengal were chasing just 156 for an outright win. The 30-year-old began the run chase quickly, as the openers – Easwaran and Sudip Chatterjee – etched up a 50-run partnership in just 69 balls.
Out of the 50 runs in the stand, Easwaran contributed 34 of them in as many deliveries, showing his attacking brand of cricket. The right-hander didn’t stop there, continuing the same attacking intent throughout the run chase, smashing his next 37 runs in 49 balls, helping Bengal chase down the total in just 29.3 overs.
With India yet to name their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, Easwaran would hope that the selectors keep him in the loop.
