76-Year-Old Asks Hardik Pandya To Consider Him For Mumbai Indians
Sunil Gavaskar revealed that Pandya complimented his fitness at the age of 76
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar shared a humorous exchange he had with India’s premier all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, during the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.
Gavaskar revealed that Pandya complimented his fitness at the age of 76, to which the former Mumbai batter jokingly replied by asking to be considered for the Mumbai Indians (MI) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Hardik Pandya told me I look very fit. So I told him, alright, consider me for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL,” said Gavaskar, as reported by News18.
Pandya has been captaining MI for the last two seasons. The all-rounder previously led the Gujarat Titans (GT) to a trophy in 2022. He returned to MI as skipper ahead of the 2024 season but failed to qualify for the playoffs. Earlier this year, MI reached the playoffs but lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2.
While India haven’t heavily relied on Pandya’s services in the Asia Cup 2025 so far, the all-rounder is set to be in the spotlight for the final against Pakistan on September 28 (Sunday). After all, he is India’s clutch player - a performer built for big-match moments.
