He might be 14, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi is already a name on the lips of several critics as the in-form player to watch out for. On October 1 (Wednesday), the young left-hander showed yet again why people rate him quite highly, with a stroke-filled 86-ball 113, which included nine fours and eight sixes against Australia Under-19 in the first unofficial Test.
After restricting Australia’s Under-19 side to just 243, the Indian Under-19 began in the most aggressive of fashions, smashing 47 runs in the first five overs. At the centre of all of this was the 14-year-old Suryavanshi, who began the innings with a four off the first ball.
Skipper Ayush Mhatre, however, could only score 21 off 15 balls before departing early. But that didn’t stop Suryavanshi, who continued his attacking onslaught against the Australian bowling unit. The left-hander completed his half-century off 37 balls and got to the landmark quite stylishly, smashing Aryan Sharma for a massive six.
It didn’t take Suryavanshi too long after to get to his century, as the left-hander got to the landmark in a similar fashion with twin boundaries. The RR opener just took 41 deliveries to race from his half-century to century, stunning the hosts.
Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed for 113 off 86 balls, with India U-19 side smashing 378 in response to Australia’s 243, leading by 135 runs, at the time of this report.
