Pakistan have recalled left-handed batsman Fawad Alam for the two-match home Test series against Sri Lanka. Alam, who has amassed over 12,000 First-Class runs last played a Test for Pakistan in 2009, which came against New Zealand at Dunedin. In his brief Test career, he averages 41.66 and has scored a century – 168 – which came against Sri Lanka on his debut in Colombo.
Fast bowler Usman Shinwari too has been named in the squad. The left-arm pacer is yet to make his Test debut, but in his 24 First-Class matches, Shinwari has picked up 90 wickets at 24.54. He also featured in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka at home. He has played 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Pakistan, picking up a combined 47 wickets.
Pakistan have dropped teenager Musa Khan, who had a disappointing Test debut at Adelaide. Also, Iftikhar Ahmed, who managed just 44 runs in the two Tests Down Under is omitted. 16-year-old Naseem Khan too was not included in the side as he prepares to represent Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup, scheduled to be played in South Africa from January 2020.
The first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played at Rawalpindi from December 11, before moving to Karachi for the second Test from December 19. This will be the first Test series to be played in Pakistan since the terror attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009.
