A Crime In My Eyes: Hardik Pandya Frustrated Over No-Balls Bowled By MI

MI bowled three no-balls, including one in the last over which proved to be decisive

The 56th match of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was full of ups and downs, and ultimately, it were the visitors, Gujarat Titans (GT), who won the game.

However, while speaking after the game, Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya rued the no-balls bowled by Mumbai Indians (MI) bowlers in the game, which included two no-balls delivered by him, and the one bowled by Deepak Chahar in the last over of GT’s chase. Pandya called these deliveries ‘a crime’.

“The catches didn't really cost us. We were very clinical with that," Hardik said after MI's defeat.

"Maybe definitely with the no-balls, with my no-ball and even the last [over] no-ball. That, in my eyes, indeed it's a crime, and most often than not it kind of bites you. It definitely did to us, but at the same point of time, really happy with the boys giving their 120% and making sure that we were in the game and not giving up.”

Pandya also chimed in on the wicket at Wankhede, which continued to present some challenged to the batters across both the innings. However, the MI skipper felt that MI could certainly have scored a lot more in the second half of their batting innings, where they lost six wickets and added just 58 runs in the last 9.3 overs.

“It was definitely not a 150 wicket. I think it was a 175 [surface]," MI’s all-rounder captain said.

"We were definitely short in batting by 20-25 runs or maybe 30 runs if you would have batted well. But I think credit to the bowlers, they kept fighting and they kept bowling at the right areas.

"In the first innings, the ground was not wet. Post that, throughout the whole innings, the ball kept getting wetter. I don't know if it helped us or not helped us, but yeah, it was difficult. Rain kept coming in. It's always not really ideal to have a stoppage and start again and have a stoppage. But the game goes on."

After this defeat, Mumbai certainly will remain in contention for the playoffs, though finishing in the top two may now be difficult.
