The West Indies tail proved to be a thorn in India's flesh in the second Test in Delhi, putting up 73 runs for the last two wickets and eating up as many as 155 deliveries in the process. As a result, the visitors were bowled out for 217, falling behind India's total of 518 by 270 runs.
It looked as though India would get a much bigger lead at one point, but the last two batting pairs frustrated the bowlers and the visitors batted for 81.5 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers, picking up his fifth fifer in Test cricket.
After spending so much time on the field, and not securing a mammoth lead, one felt India might not enforce the follow-on and instead come out and score some quick runs and allow their spin trio have a crack at the opposition in the fourth innings. However, that's not what transpired as Shubman Gill asked West Indies to bat again.
In doing so, India did something they have not done since 2015. The last time they asked the opposition to bat on after a first-inning lead of under 300 was 10 years ago against Bangladesh in Fatullah.
