AB de Villiers' international retirement is final, confirms CSA

Cricket South Africa confirmed that AB de Villiers will not return to international cricket as his call for retirement is final

Cricket South Africa on Tuesday confirmed that AB de Villiers' international retirement is final following talks with the former Proteas captain. Earlier in April this year, De Villiers revealed that he had discussed his plans for an international comeback with South Africa head coach Mark Boucher in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

"Discussions with AB de Villiers have concluded with the batsman deciding once and for all, that his retirement will remain final," CSA said in a statement.

Considered to be one of the modern greats, De Villiers played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20s for South Africa scoring over 20,000 runs across three formats. He abruptly announced his international retirement in 2018 before talks gathered around his return for the 2019 ODI World Cup.

The 37-year old's final appearance for South Africa came in April 2018 in the Test against Australia in Johannesburg. He last played against Punjab Kings in the suspended Indian Premier League 2021.
