Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most devastating T20 innings ever witnessed in Indian domestic cricket, hammering 148 off just 52 balls and blasting 16 sixes to propel Punjab to a mammoth total of 310/5 in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 match against Bengal in Hyderabad.
The left-hander’s assault not only dismantled Bengal’s attack (which contained three India bowlers in Mohammed Shami, Akash Deep and Shahbaz Ahmed) but also shattered multiple T20 records in a single evening of extraordinary ball-striking.
Walking in with intent from the outset, Abhishek launched into Bengal’s bowlers almost immediately, racing to a fifty in only 12 balls and equalling the record of his mentor Yuvraj Singh, who also has a 12-ball fifty in the shortest format, albeit at the international level.
Abhishek continued to attack relentlessly, reaching his century off 32 deliveries, which is the joint third-fastest hundred in T20 cricket by an Indian. With this, he also became one of the few batters globally to register multiple T20 hundreds in under 35 balls. This was also his fifth century in SMAT, which is the most for any batter. Overall, he has eight T20 hundreds, and only Virat Kohli (9) has had more centuries among Indian batters.
His tally of 16 sixes in the innings not only defined the tone of the innings for Punjab, but also took his total for the year past 90 sixes, breaking his own Indian record for most sixes in a calendar year across all T20s. The previous record was the 87 sixes he hit in 2024, a milestone he eclipsed with ease during this blistering knock.
The left-hander’s onslaught came despite a modest lead-up to the fixture, having registered several single-digit scores earlier in the tournament. He was eventually dismissed at 148 in just 52 deliveries in the death overs after being away from the strike for some time as the other Punjab batters took the total across 300.
