Abhishek Sharma is the man in form, as the left-hander continued his rampaging form with his third half-century of the competition, on September 26 (Friday). The opener has been the best player of the competition, and against Sri Lanka in the last Super 4 clash, he continued that stellar form.
After being inserted into batting first, India got off to a stunning start against Sri Lanka, all thanks to Abhishek. The left-hander absolutely wrecked the Sri Lankan bowling unit, including smashing Maheesh Theekshana for a six and a four in the second over of the innings.
He didn’t stop there either, as Abhishek took on Sri Lanka’s best bowler, Nuwan Thushara, with back-to-back boundaries, smashing 26 off his first 13 balls. The left-hander continued that form against Dusmantha Chameera, taking 14 runs off the over. Eventually, Abhishek completed his half-century off 22 balls, with a boundary against Thushara.
It was Abhishek’s seventh consecutive 30+ score in T20Is, joint-most for any batter in the format alongside Rohit Sharma and Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan. Not just that, he also surpassed Rizwan’s tally of 281 to become the first batter to score 300 runs in a single edition of the Asia Cup (T20Is)
