Abhishek's Ton One Of The Greatest Knocks In IPL History: Former India Skipper
Abhishek Sharma posted the highest ever score by an Indian batter in the IPL against Punjab Kings (PBKS), pummelling 141 off just 55 balls
In one of the most extraordinary displays of power hitting in a very long time, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma posted the highest-ever score by an Indian batter in the IPL against Punjab Kings (PBKS), pummelling 141 off just 55 balls.
Everything Abhishek touched turned to gold on the night, and his efforts helped SRH chase down 246 without breaking a sweat, as they got home with nine balls to spare. Abhishek posted the third-highest score by any batter in the IPL as well, and broke a ton of other records.
Former India skipper Kris Srikkanth labeled the youngster’s knock one of the greatest ever in the competition’s history.
"The knock that boy Abhishek Sharma played tonight, I don't think I've seen a knock like this in the IPL ever,” Srikkanth said on his Youtube channel.
“Probably one of the greatest knocks in IPL I've ever seen. I've been watching the IPL since 2008, to do what Abhishek did while chasing, it's truly out of this world."
The former India batter revealed that, after Punjab posted 245 batting first, he was convinced that SRH stood no chance.
"I thought during the mid-innings break that the chase would be impossible for SRH. I'll be very, very honest. I had predicted SRH to win the previous night but mid-match, I thought SRH had no chance. I thought 'who can chase 246 and win?,” he said.
Abhishek had a lot of luck on his side, though, first being dismissed off a no-ball before being put down multiple times. There were also multiple miscued hits that fell in no man’s land.
Do the chances bring down the knock’s quality? ‘No’, according to Srikkanth, who asserted that Abhishek earned the luck.
"There is a saying that fortune favours the brave. Even if the opponent drops plenty of catches, you need talent to do what he did. This boy has got some extraordinary talent and six-hitting ability,” Srikkanth said.
