West Indies cricket, after being humiliated by defeats against Nepal in T20Is, were forced into another problem as their ace pacer, Alazarri Joseph, was ruled out of the two-match Test series against India on September 29 (Monday).
A social media post by West Indies Cricket confirmed that Joseph was ruled out after a scan showed degeneration of a previously resolved back injury. Jediah Blades has been added to the Windies’ squad as cover for Joseph.
Blades, who has featured in three ODIs and five T20Is, has been unable to impress so far. But Blades was not the board’s first choice as they had gone to experienced Jason Holder, who declined the offer to undergo a pre-planned medical procedure.
A few days ago, it was also confirmed that pacer Shamar Joseph will miss the two-match series due to injury. CWI added all-rounder Johann Layne as Shamar's replacement.
West Indies have not had a great outing coming into the Test series as they were beaten 0-3 at home by Australia. The two-match series in India will kick off on October 2 in Ahmedabad and the second Test will be played from October 10 in New Delhi.
