English leg spinner Adil Rashid has reaped the rewards of a stellar performance in the ongoing T20I series against India. He has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC T20I bowler rankings.
Rashid, who was instrumental in England making a comeback in the series and winning the third T20I, bowled a brilliant spell of 1/15 in the game and has picked three wickets so far in the series.
West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein overtook Rashid around Christmas last year, after the former had occupied the top spot since the end of 2023.
Varun Chakravarthy was the other one who gained a lot in the rankings after picking up a fifer in the second T20I and climbed 25 spots to breach the top 10 for the first time in his career and reach the 5th spot on the table.
Axar Patel also benefitted from his good bowling in the series and is at the 11th spot on the table. Arshdeep Singh is ninth, and Ravi Bishnoi is on the 10th spot in Men’s T20I bowler rankings.
Regarding the Men’s T20 batter rankings, Travis Head remains at the top and now has a 23-point lead over Tilak Varma, who’s second on the table after his stellar run in South Africa, where he struck back-to-back centuries.
Varma also began the England series on a high and his 72* in the second T20I helped India ace a tricky chase. If he continues his form in the remaining the two games of the series, he can theoretically overtake Head to the top spot.
If he does so, he’ll be the youngest ever to top the Men’s T20I batter rankings. The current record is held by Babar Azam, who became the No.1-ranked T20I batter at the age of just 23 years and 105 days.
