Afghanistan name Sharafuddin Ashraf as Asghar’s replacement

After Asghar Afghan announced retirement, Afghanistan announced that Sharafuddin will replace the former skipper

Asghar Afghan sprung a surprise on the Afghanistan management, announcing his retirement mid-way through the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. In the wake of his retirement, the Asian side have named all-rounder Sharafuddin Ashraf as his replacement for the ongoing global event.

On Tuesday (November 2), ICC T20 World Cup’s Event Technical Committee approved the replacement following concerns over the veteran’s mental well-being, cited ICC. Ashraf, who has represented Afghanistan in 26 International fixtures, including nine T20Is might walk into the playing XI, in case Mujeeb doesn’t recover in time.

The left-arm orthodox spinner, Ashraf, who has picked up five wickets since his debut is available for selection for Afghanistan’s clash against India on Wednesday (November 3). Mohammad Nabi-led side gave Asghar Afghan a fitting farewell, with a win over Namibia, which has moved the Asian side second on the points table, only behind table-toppers Pakistan.
