Afghanistan to play two Tests in the space of one month

Afghanistan and Sri Lanka weren’t going to play ODIs, but three games have now been added to the schedule

Afghanistan, who last played a Test in June 2023, will be playing two red-ball games (vs Sri Lanka and Ireland) in the space of one month.

They will play their first-ever Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo from February 2, followed by three ODIs and as many T20Is.

Afghanistan will then travel to the UAE where they will first play another Test against Ireland from February 28. There are also three ODIs and as many T20Is scheduled, which will help them prepare for the T20 World Cup.

Earlier, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka weren’t going to play ODIs, but three games have now been added to the schedule.

"The addition of these three ODIs is a significant move to ensure a complete and comprehensive tour which not only provides good exposure to Afghanistan Cricket but will also foster stronger relations between the two nations,” said ACB chief Mirwais Ashraf.

“Playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is always tricky but is a challenge that Afghan Atalan can easily embrace."

Afghanistan are currently in India for a three-match T20I series, starting on Thursday (January 11) in Mohali. "The upcoming tours of India, Sri Lanka, and then the home series against Ireland will help us to prepare the team for the much-important T20 World Cup.”
