The ICC have announced that Afghanistan Umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari, who officiated 34 ODIs and 26 T20Is between 2017 and 2025, has passed away at the age of 41.
Shinwari, who debuted as an umpire in December 2017 in Sharjah, in an ODI between Ireland and Afghanistan, recently officiated in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 in Al Amerat, Oman, in February this year.
"Bismillah was a prominent umpire respected by players, peers, and officials alike. He was a regular on the international cricket circuit and had a long career ahead of him,” ICC Chairman Jay Shah said in a statement, mourning the loss.
“His contributions to the game were huge, and he will be deeply missed by the cricket community. We are profoundly saddened by this loss and extend our condolences to his family and loved ones."
Shinwari was a member of the ICC International Panel of Umpires. His last professional game as an umpire came in Afghanistan’s Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament in June, in the clash between Hindukush Strikers and Maiwand Champions.
