After Debut Cameo, Aaryavir Sehwag Wants To Bat Longer And Create More Impact
Sehwag's son, Aaryavir, scored 22 off 16 balls on his DPL debut
He had to wait patiently for 10 games, but Aaryavir Sehwag, the eldest son of India great Virender Sehwag, finally got his opportunity in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) on August 27 (Wednesday). Acquired by Central Delhi Kings for INR 8 lakh at the auction, Aaryavir made his debut against East Delhi Riders and had a very promising showing, posting 22 off 16 balls opening the batting.
The youngster got away a couple of brisk boundaries and looked really settled during his short stay in the middle.
With that first knock out of the way, the 17-year-old now wants to build on it and bat longer.
“It felt good. The first two boundaries gave me confidence and helped me settle in. But the innings wasn’t that long. I will try to stay longer in the middle next time," Aaryavir said about his debut knock, reported News18.
The youngster revealed that he was told at the end of the Purani Dili 6 clash, where took a stunning catch to dismiss Rajneesh Dadar, that he’ll be making his debut.
“After the last game, [I got to know that I will play the next one]," he revealed.
“I took that catch in the previous match. After the game ended, Jonty [Sidhu] bhaiyya told me that I would play the next match.”
While an IPL contract might be too early for someone like Aaryavir, he is still in the sights of the scouts, thanks to them closely following the DPL to plan for IPL 2026. However, the youngster said that he’s not distracted by their presence and just goes about his business.
“We are aware that we are being monitored. The scouts have their eyes on us. But we don’t think about it too much, especially when we are on the field. We just focus on the game," he said.
Central Delhi Kings will take on East Delhi Riders in Qualifier 1 of DPL 2025 tomorrow.
