Lhuan-dre Pretorious played for Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025 and smashed 397 runs a strike rate of 166.81

Nitish Rana has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have replaced him with South Africa’s young swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter Lhuan-dre Pretorious, the franchise announced on May 8 (Thursday). He joins RR at his base price of INR 30 lakh.

The 19-year-old was the leading run-getter in the SA20 2025. Playing for RR’s sister franchise Paarl Royals, he smashed 397 runs across 12 innings at an average of 33.08 and a strike rate of 166.81. Overall, Pretorious has 911 runs in 33 T20s at an average of 27.60 and a strike rate of 147.17.

The left-hander, who is a big fan of Quinton de Kock, was one of the best batters in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, scoring 287 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 57.40. 

Talking about Rana, the experienced batter only scored 217 runs in 11 innings at an average of 21.70 and a strike rate of 161.94. And, 132 of those runs came in just two innings.

The Royals have already been knocked out of the race for the playoffs. RR have lost nine of their 12 encounters in the IPL 2025 and have two more game remaining.
