After new revelations, CA ponders reopening sandpapergate investigation

Australia batsman Cameron Bancroft recently said that the bowlers were aware of what was going to unfold

Following fresh revelations from Cameron Bancroft regarding Australia bowlers' prior knowledge of ball-tampering during the Cape Town Test against South Africa, Cricket Australia (CA) are open to reinvestigating the whole episode.

"CA has maintained all along that if anyone is in possession of new information in regards to the Cape Town Test of 2018, they should come forward and present it. The investigation conducted at the time was detailed and comprehensive. Since then, no one has presented new information to CA that casts doubt on the investigation's findings," a CA spokesperson told ESPNCricinfo

In March 2018, Bancroft was caught on camera rubbing sandpaper on the ball during the Cape Town Test against South Africa. After investigation, the Australia opener received a nine-month ban for his role. Steven Smith and David Warner, the captain and vice-captain respectively at that time, were banned by the cricket board after they planned the entire thing.

Bancroft, who is currently playing for the County side Durham, said that it was 'probably self-explanatory' whether the bowlers were aware that the ball was being tampered with.
