Players of Australia and South Africa paid tribute to the victims of the Ahmedabad Plane Crash before the start of play on day three of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's by observing a minute’s silence before the first ball of the day was bowled. Players of both teams also wore black armbands as a sign of respect to the victims.
The tragedy in question took place on June 12 (Thursday) in Ahmedabad when an Air India Plane bound for London crashed moments after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport.
The devastating crash killed 241 passengers and crew members, with there being a sole survivor. The tragedy was a twofold one as the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner plane, following a technical failure, crashed into the hostel of the BJ Medical College Civil Hospital, taking the lives of several students while injuring close to thirty others.
