Let’s go back to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’s second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Prince Yadav (1/29) ended the game as the only bowler with an economy of less than 8 and was the key reason why LSG beat SRH.
But guess what? The 23-year-old paceman hasn’t played a single game since then, with Lucknow replacing him with Manimaran Siddharth in the next match before making Akash Deep a permanent member of their playing XI.
There’s no denying that Akash Deep has been playing ahead of Prince only on reputation because his IPL numbers are beyond terrible - 10 wickets in 11 games (38.2 overs) at an average of 45.3 and an economy rate of 11.8.
Now, these numbers are not just bad; they are horrendous. Amongst bowlers who have bowled at least 30 overs in the IPL, Akash Deep has the worst economy.
The right-arm paceman has been horrible in all three phases of the game. He has an economy of 10.9 in the powerplay and middle overs, which goes up to 17.3 in the death overs.
Akash Deep missed the first few games of the IPL 2025 because of a back injury before making his comeback against Mumbai Indians (MI). He registered figures of 1/46 in four overs against MI before getting smashed for 55 runs in his four overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Against Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 12 (Saturday), Akash Deep bowled three overs and leaked 33 runs without taking a single wicket.
Only twice has Akash Deep finished with an economy of less than 11 in his 11-match IPL career so far. Even in one of those two games, he gave away 29 runs in three overs (ER 9.7).
