Ambati Rayudu's retirement tweet a non-story in the CSK camp: Stephen Fleming

The India batter, who was bought by the CSK for INR 6.75 crore in the IPL mega auction has scored 271 runs at 27.1 this season so far

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) succumbed to their ninth loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 with a seven-wicket loss against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

However, a controversy had erupted ahead of the game when batter Ambati Rayudu had announced his retirement on social media, but then immediately deleted it. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan later on clarified that the CSK batter would not be retiring.

Speaking of the incident, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said that it is a non-issue within the team. "It was not disappointing, it was probably a little bit of a storm in a teacup, to be honest," Fleming said in the post-match press conference.

"But, I think he was fine. It has not changed anything in the camp but it is a non-story."

Rayudu deleted his "retirement" tweet an hour after posting it. The CSK CEO once again clarified that Rayudu will indeed be with CSK the following season.

"He was a bit disappointed that he was not doing well. So, he mistakenly put out that tweet. I have explained things to him. He is not retiring. He will be with us," Viswanathan said.

Rayudu was bought by the CSK for INR 6.75 crore in the IPL mega auction. He has scored 271 runs at 27.1 this season so far.
