Amit Mishra, Klaasen fined for breaching IPL's Code of Conduct

The two had breached IPL’s code of conduct during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s home clash against Lucknow Super Giants

While the Indian Premier League (IPL) press release didn’t specify the reason, chances are high that Heinrich Klaasen’s fine for breaching the Code of Conduct could be due to his words with the umpires.

After being unhappy with the decision taken by the umpire, in regard to a waist-high no-ball, Klaasen was seen having a word or two with the on-field umpire Akshay Totre. The third-umpire Yeshwant Barde had deemed the ball as not a no-ball despite it being above the waist high.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad's Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10 percent of his match-fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 58 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on May 13," IPL said in an official statement after the match.

"Klaasen admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 which states the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL's Code of Conduct,” he added.

Not just Klaasen, Lucknow’s star spinner, Amit Mishra too has been fined for abusing the equipment during the match. Mishra after picking up the wicket of Anmolpreet Singh was seen throwing the ball on the ground.

“Lucknow Super Giants’ Amit Mishra has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Mr Mishra admitted to level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct which states abuse of equipment during the match. Mr Mishra accepted the sanction.”

“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”
