On the lines of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, the India-England Test series will also have uniformity as both teams will play for the same silverware called the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, starting with India’s tour of England in 2025.
The development, reported by ESPNcricinfo, comes in the wake of both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) choosing to rename the two different trophies that both teams played for in their respective countries.
Earlier, when India toured England, they played for the Pataudi Trophy, named after former India captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, while England’s tour of India was for the Anthony de Mello Trophy, the man who founded the BCCI.
Two greats of the game, James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar, after whom the Trophy has been renamed, will unveil the look of it, possibly during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which will be played between June 11 and 15 at the iconic Lord’s in London between Australia and South Africa.
While Tendulkar played 200 Tests before retiring in 2013, Anderson featured in 188 before hanging up his boots in 2024.
Earlier in November 2024, the ECB, in co-operation with New Zealand Cricket (NZC), named the Test series between England and New Zealand the Crowe-Thorpe after two legendary cricketers, Martin Crowe of New Zealand and Graham Thorpe of England.
