Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah returned for the third Test at Lord’s after missing the second Test, and had a quiet Day 1 where he bowled brilliantly. He induced false shots on nearly 30% of his deliveries; however, despite all the edges and misses, he only had a single wicket to show.
On Day 2, with the new ball in hand, he wreaked havoc on English batters and knocked out Ben Stokes and Joe Root’s stumps in no time. He then got Chris Woakes caught by Dhruv Jurel to get two in two (along with Root), and was on a hat-trick at one point. He was getting the ball to move off the seam at a skiddy pace, and as a result, four out of his five wickets were clean bowled.
This was Bumrah’s 13th five-wicket haul away from India in 34 games, and he surpassed Kapil Dev, who has 12 fifers. Overall, he has 15 five-wicket hauls in 46 Test matches, which means he’s picking one fifer every third Test he plays for India.
He also equalled Wasim Akram’s record for most fifers in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) (11) by an Asian bowler.
