Another day, another freak injury for Rachin Ravindra as the New Zealand all-rounder is ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Australia, on October 1 (Wednesday). Ravindra, who has had his fair share of freak injuries, has been ruled out of the series after suffering a major laceration.
The young all-rounder collided with the boundary boards during one of New Zealand’s training sessions at Bay Oval. While he passed the concussion test, the all-rounder required significant stitching, which would require a lot of time to heal.
New Zealand have named veteran all-rounder James Neesham as his replacement for the three-match series.
"We're all really disappointed for Rachin to be forced to miss the series," head coach Rob Walter said.
"Rachin is obviously an important player for us, but his health and wellbeing is our top priority, and so the decision was made to send him home to recover with an eye to being available for the England series in two weeks' time."
It adds to the BlackCaps’ extensive list of injuries, given they are already without their full-time skipper, Mitchell Santner, whilst also missing their explosive opener, Finn Allen.
