NEWSEngland fast bowler Jofra Archer is set to undergo a procedure on his right hand after an elbow injury ruled him out of the One-Day International (ODI) series against India and consequently, he could also miss a few games for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which commences from April 9.
A release from the ECB said, " England fast bowler Jofra Archer will undergo a procedure to his right hand following a scan and subsequent Consultant review since he returned to the UK on Tuesday (March 23). He has also had a further injection for the right elbow injury that had seen him declared unfit for selection for the current ODI series versus India."
The procedure on Archer's hand is scheduled to take place on Monday (March 29). After consulting with a specialist in the UK, it has also been decided that surgery is the best way to move forward. "Further investigation and a specialist opinion were sought upon his return to the UK and, in conjunction with the ECB medical panel, it has been decided that surgery is the best option to manage his injury in the longer term," the release added.
Archer is also believed to have cut his hand while cleaning his house prior to his departure to India - an injury that was initially managed by the ECB.and subsequently had not impact on his availability.
Archer played a couple of Tests and all five T20 Internationals (T20I) on England's tour of India. His 4 for 33 in the fourth T20I in Ahmedabad was also his career-best bowling figures in the shortest format for England. In the IPL last season, Archer was RR's leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets at an economy rate of 6.55 in 14 matches, but could not let the Steven Smith-led side finish at the bottom of the table.
His availability for IPL 2021 still remains unclear.
