Jofra Archer made his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and turned up for the franchise in three seasons straight. However, injury played a big role in his progress in the last four years, as the English speedster has only played four games in the last four seasons combined.
Now, back in the Royals camp once again, he will aim to get back to full fitness and become a mainstay in the IPL. The Royals signed him for 12.5 crore during the IPL 2025 auction, held in Jeddah, and the management couldn’t have been happier.
"We're delighted. We were really happy to have him back in the set-up," Rajasthan Royals chief executive Jake Lush McCrum told BBC World Service's Stumped podcast. "I spoke to him quickly afterward, and he's delighted, we're delighted, and that explosive capability is something that is unique. It's great to pick him up."
Archer’s workload has been one of the biggest contributing factors from an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) perspective, and with the IPL clashing with England’s domestic county season - the ECB may decide to pull the plug a little earlier. However, the RR CEO is confident that he will be managed well at the franchise.
"He has gone through a challenging few years, but he's well looked after now," added Lush McCrum. "The England physio Craig is actually our physio in the IPL as well, so there's that continuity of management, which is really important.
"He can be managed well. From all of the reviews we got in before the auction, he's in a really good place and we will take great care in ensuring he remains in that good place,” McCrum added.
The 29-year-old has had a stop-start international career but 2024 has so far been a productive year for Archer, who has featured in 20 international games for England - the most in five years. He was a part of England’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad and recently played in the five-match T20I series against West Indies which the Three Lions won 3-1.
