Arshdeep Singh’s unlucky tour to England continues, as the left-arm pacer injured his bowling hand during the nets session on July 17 (Thursday), which could all but rule him out of the Manchester Test, which starts on July 23 (Wednesday)
Thus far, Arshdeep hasn’t featured in a single Test for India, and it looked like it would change after the Lord’s defeat, as the management wanted to include him in the playing 11. But the left-arm pacer’s untimely injury, which came when he tried to stop a Sai Sudharsan shot, has now put him in major worry, reported the Indian Express.
“Arshdeep took a ball while he was bowling there, Sai hit a ball and he tried to stop it and it’s just a cut. So we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team have taken him off to see a doctor and obviously, if he needs stitches or doesn’t need stitches it’s going to be important to our planning for the next few days,” India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said.
With Bumrah set to play just three Tests in the entire series, Arshdeep’s injury could force the management to play the pacer at Old Trafford in Manchester. However, if Arshdeep does recover, it will be interesting to see who they would leave out - Nitish Kumar Reddy or Birmingham hero Akash Deep.
